Niagara falls About the Falls Situated on the border of Canada (Ontario) and the U.S state of New York, Niagara falls is visited by millions of tourist from all over the world each year. Located in a national park, the best part about it is it's free. The falls can be viewed from both sides of the boarder with the larger of the falls being on the Canadian side. Unfortunately it is difficult to access both side, especially without the proper visa. Weather you are on the U.S side or the Canadian side the view is spectacular. Although viewing the falls is of course free, a trip on the maid of the mist is a must. This is a boat that takes you out to the falls. Boats run from both sides of the boarder and allows a closer look at one of the world natural wonders. This is arguable the best view of all, you may get a little wet but it is well worth it. Maid of the mist does provide ponchos to all those that venture aboard. There is also an inside area of the boat for those who don't want to get wet. However the atmosphere is so much more electric outside and it adds to the overall experience. Cost for a ride on the maid of the mist is around $15 per person and worth every cent. Want a closer look? Then head to the journey behind the falls! Part of this tour you will get to walk in the caves behind the falls and get as close as you possible can without of course being washed away in a sea of foam. Again ponchos will be proved and prepare to get a little wet. For those adventurous type can walk along the boardwalk to the top where large splashes of water come thundering down. Whilst it doesn't sound safe it absolutely is. Just prepared to get soaked if you chose the venture up to the top. To save some money you can pre-purchase a pass on Niagara parks website. You can also purchase tickets at the park. There is no best time to visit the falls. It is specular all year round. In the winter the edges of the falls frezzes up. make sure you wear warm clothing and a water proof jacket. The power of the falls creates a mist that will dampen you clothes. If you are planning on taking a boat ride or venturing behind the falls a change of clothing is also a must. Although with the protection of a poncho its surprising how dry you will actually stay. In the summer time the mist is refreshing but still take a jacket and a change of clothes. For most people this is somewhere you will only visit once. You don't want to miss out on the experience of the falls just because you want to keep your clothes dry. The view of the falls is fantastic but nothing beats getting up close to the falls.
